Media magazine Analysis

Christian Batchlelor

This magazine cover shows a woman – student – standing casually with writing down the side giving different pieces of information to the reader about the schooling studies.

Mise en Scene:

Costume. The main character in the foreground is dressed casually, which would connote a certain freedom to the studies offered in the magazine. The clothes are fairly fashionable and would be relevant to the reader of the magazine as the target audience of this magazine is young students looking to take courses and so this style would address them and give them the idea of a lax rule in the college.

Props. There are no real props used in the magazine cover, the only use of props is the bag on her shoulder which carries on with the idea of a casual school life and fits in to the general idea of the magazine an its school-like theme.

Lighting. The lighting is simple, pure white; this makes it clear to the reader so that they can focus on the important information that the magazine presents. The white background not only makes it clear but also adds a bright atmosphere to the cover, which will give the reader a positive impression.

NVC’S (Non Verbal Communication). The NVC’s on the cover add even more to the positive attitude or feeling that the school is trying to give as the actor is smiling widely which gives the reader more positive associations with the studies.

Setting. There is no setting on the cover so that the reader will focus more on the things mentioned above and the information on the front.

Font:

The font is clear to make it easy for the reader and no real style has been used to any effect the school wanted to make things simple so they used a plain font.

Texts:

The texts contain all the information the school is presenting to the reader and this information is presented simply with the most important bits made to stand out by being in bigger fonts.
